Dr Kemp Acquitted After Four Hours In District Court
Dr Thomas J Kemp of 1455 Massachusetts Ave NW was acquitted in the police court of prescribing and selling morphine in violation of the District pharmacy law. Judge Pugh instructed the jury as deliberations extended after witnesses testified that a cocaine addict could not be a morphine addict and that McCann kept unopened morphine bottles. The defense argued the evidence failed to prove addiction or sale to an addict while the prosecution contended a dope purchase was arranged through a newspaper setup.
