School City Movement Gains National Support In Washington
President Hale and Gifford Pinchot back a national plan to organize children into self governing school cities. The idea, led by Wilson L Gill, started in New York in 1897 and has expanded across the nation with support from prominent figures like Roosevelt, Jacob Riis, and Lyman Beecher Stowe. Washington educators weigh the movement as a path to citizenship, self restraint, and public welfare through youth led governance in schools.
