Max Cohen argues in Views that mutualization of the Equitable Life Assurance Society, approved by its Board on the 21st, will gradually shift control to policyholders. The plan, defining 28 directors by policyholders and 24 by stockholders, requires state approval and aims to end four years hence with broad policyholder participation and strengthened governance led by WilliamFlyde and the agency.
