Negro Sentenced to Indiana Reformatory for Theft
Olver Burns, a young Black man, was sentenced Thursday to the Indiana reformatory for an inde terminate sentence. He also faced a $10 fine and two years disfranchisement on a theft charge brought by Nathan Beltman. Burns pleaded guilty to stealing a brown overcoat valued at $28 from a box behind Bell Clothing store and later wore the coat at a moving picture venue. He claimed the act occurred Oct 4, and was caught when clerk Firman Rodarmel identified the coat. The judge imposed the reformatory term and penalties. Burns is described as the stepson of Robert Masore, a local Black resident, and had been living with Miss Foster and her parents in Washington and later visited family in this city.
