George W. Grubbs, Indiana G A R department commander, reports Senators and Congressmen are studying a service pension bill for veterans who served ninety days or more and had an honorable discharge. He urges all state Posts to petition for passage and urges eligible ex soldiers to join a post. The goal is to push favorable action at the next session and memorialize Congress.
Mrs Kate Ritch Hoy Rephigan aged 63 was found dead in bed at her home in Wheatland just before dawn. Neighbors said she had lived in the county all her life and was the widow of the late Baber Lipnbpagon. The body showed signs of illness and she had been in frail health for a year.
A yard engine struck James Farrell while he sat on a rail between Ha at Second and East Third streets. His left leg was crushed and he died, with witnesses noting he had been a brakeman and a former crew member from Seymour. The body was taken to Seymour for burial as authorities investigated the accident.
A $2500 forgery involving Silas Ketchem and George Cramer is disclosed. Cramer forged a deed transferring Ketchem’s Elmore township farm to himself and secured a $2500 mortgage through attorney M S Hastings, using a notarized deed dated October 22 1902. The case centers on forged signatures and a fraudulent land transfer. Cramer vanished after the loan, and Hastings identified him. the suspect’s whereabouts remain unknown.
In Enid Oklahoma the Shirley Shoe Company was placed in the hands of a receiver at the request of the National Bank of Enid which holds over 87900. The notice mentions a sale of stock and ongoing efforts to liquidate assets amid financial distress. The former owner Robert F Shirley is identified in association with the firm.
Mrs Margi Arvin, aged fifty seven and long time resident, died after a sudden illness lasting two days. She was married to Mel A Arvin since July 1803 and left several children. Funeral and burial planned for Sugar Creek Cemetery tomorrow morning at eight o’clock.
