A carnival fakir claimed carnival management swindled him after buying a stand privilege. An altercation at the Mercantile hotel left three shots fired and a man cut on the scalp. The injured party was treated by Dr. Willeford. suspects including Cates faced police attention.
Report notes investigation into a shooting initially thought to be in fun. Bullets narrowly missed several women. A lad named Carter was claimed to be the shooter.
The Capital City Carnival drew big crowds to the old Hair Grounds Monday night with rides on a jet and other attractions. The Linton band of seven Hiccas, aided by three Washington persops, provided music. more band members are expected tonight.
A number of slot machines were placed in saloons this morning hauled to back doors on drays. It is claimed they are the machines Sheriff Morgan seized in Kelly's Arcade saloon and advertised for sale but disappeared one night and were not returned. Marshal Geyer allegedly permitted saloon visitors to use them this week to separate visitors from their money.
This morning at nine o clock Lemon and Miss Sarah Auberry both of Waco were married at St Patrick's patronage in Corning. Rev. Charles Curran officiated. The groom is a well known man and his bride is a daughter of Mr and Mrs John Auberry of Waco.
Loogootee council wrestled with sewer work and a new city hall site. They canceled the J. F. Brown & Bro. contract, may build a three or four foot sewer under the railroad, and buy the Matfield Palmer corner lot for 2000 dollars amid street widening talks.
The next regular meeting will decide the election of a school trustee to succeed A E Johnson and appoint a city teamster. Named candidates include Thomas Small, Dr R M Swailey, John Neal, and Py Ledgerwhad. Debate centers on Small as the sole active candidate and possible personal motives. Forest teamster William Kenjolla aims for a role and shows confidence in a solid vote.
Maye Cooteo, Qlorie Hil, Murktial Walnima and Cheayaugaeten epithe viktien visited Monday and attended the Cornell miootligl. They found the visit profitable and pleasant and learned much about new duties. Mayor Coulevant praised Washington officials and citizens for courteous treatment and hoped to reciprocate someday.
Patrick O Neill, a noted street workman, was arrested by Marshal Geyer and Sanitary Policeman Yager for breaking a smallpox quarantine. His wife is confined at their Mill Street home with the sun, while he had been staying at the Mercantile hotel. He was taken home and ordered to remain under quarantine until health officers release him.
In Washington and Indiana, Van V. Miller former Vigo County prosecutor and Republican chairman is arrested on conspiracy charges related to the Ryan and Co. case. Postmaster General Payne dismisses Daniel V Miller, aiding investigation continues as papers are gathered for court.
