Daviess Entered Law as Kentucky Star in Forensic Era
Joseph Hamilton Daviess rose amid a stellar Kentucky legal circle that included Clay, Breckenridge, Marshall, Rowan and Grundy. He avoided politics, pursued land title battles, and became famed for fearless oratory and eccentric charm even as dueling and gambling dominated frontier courts.
Gas field myth blocks Washington gas franchise
Washington officials investigated a Robinson Illinois proposal by Mr Prime to pipe natural gas here. They found the claim unfeasible and infeasible due to distant wells and costs near four hundred thousand dollars. Mayor Russell and council members concluded the gas franchise idea is not workable.

Local option case set for April term in Daviess court
The pending suit by Harry Sheron a west end saloon keeper challenges the local option act arguing it was not finally passed until proclaimed on November 20 1908 and seeks to block police from interfering with his saloon until his license expires October 5 1909. A second test case about the act's constitutionality was filed in Daviess circuit court. Judge Houghton will rule this term. If Sheron wins three Washington county saloon keepers then may stay open.
