Fragmentary notes show a county superintendent race with candidate names including F A Dixon Bart town Hugh Morgan Brd township H Jogl Danner Elmorennet Madison Bier Doyle Van Bart township Btuckey Veale. The passage hints at a formal candidate list to be compiled.
The will of Mrs Margaret Cols who died at Plginville was probated in Daviess circuit court. It directs a decent burial and leaves all property to Joba the Elora miller with no restrictions. Witnesses included Thomas Sebrs William F Killion Lon Ragsdale Josh Evand William Murray B Hartis.
Patterson, 22, from Loogootee, died after being struck by a northbound train near Youngstown while en route to Terre Haute. He and Mattingly had traveled from Vincennes to Sullivan then mistook Farmersburg for Terre Haute. Patterson died before Dr. Young arrived. body sent to Loogootee for funeral at St. Mary’s Church and burial in Loogootee Cemetery. He leaves two brothers and two sisters in the area.

Eph Gregory teaching a subscription school at Waco. James P Hixon sold property at an auction and plans to move to Washington. Deputy Sheriff W E McCriband of Washington attended to duties Friday. High Mass celebrated at St Patrick’s Church on St Patrick’s Day. Cadets and St Patrick’s Temperance Society renewed the pledge. Festival tickets raffled: iron bedstead to Annie Murphy, gold locket to James Klane, porcelain to Esther Donnally. Joe Roarty and Jim Fanning returned Monday after a few days with relatives.
In police court Tuesday afternoon Theodore Purgell of 4 South Washington faced charges of trespassing on Isaac Steinfield’s land. The court found Steinfield mistaken and acquitted Purgell, noting another boy was in the field at the time.
A section of track near Boggs Creek ten miles east of Logansport slid away after heavy rains loosened a 50 foot embankment. Eastbound passenger No. 2 crossed safety but the line shifted, forcing No. 8 to back and reroute. Crews worked overnight to rebuild the bank letting Nos. 4 and 5 resume service. Passenger trains rerouted via Vincennes Princeton Louisville and Cincinnati.

County official Daily reports writs to tax commissioner Rea and township assessors to meet before April first. If unable to convene, assessors to meet March 31. Township work heavy due to real estate re appraisal with 2508 days pay and deputies earning 12 2 cents per day under new law.
Washington township assessors will earn about 2400 annually and must be ready for duty year round. George B. McWilliams notes tax payments surge before April each year as residents hurry to avoid assessments. County records show rising revenue for recorders and a pending end of County Sept.
