Exhibition Fights End as Welsh Falls to Layton in Seven Rounds
About one hundred spectators gathered at the Peoples theatre in Petersburg for a twenty five round sparring match between Billy Layton of Hot Springs and Jack Welsh of Paul. Welsh KO'd in the seventh round. Referee Hugh Rafferty and timekeeper Paul Schubert presided. Layton led with a body blow and right hand hooks, finally knocking Welsh out after a sharp left to the temple. The piece also features a verse praising Petersburg and notes city business and local notices connected to the event.
