Taft’s Fargo stop features a massive torchlit crowd, three speeches, and a planned bear barbecue that ends bear meat not served. Thousands travel from 450 miles as Taft contests labor tariff and Roosevelt policies with local color and growing campaign polish.
William Jennings Bryan toured South Dakota on a one day drive via Fik Point and Sioux City, railing against the Republican platform and Taft while urging bank deposit guarantees and campaign finance publicity. He spoke at Mitchell, Yankton, Vermillion and Sioux City, drawing large crowds despite cold winds, and urged residents to remove lithographs of himself from storefronts.

In Nashville Indiana Jacob Wilson, a farmer near Story, descended into a dry field well to deepen it. A cave-in buried him under debris as his family and their dog Shep searched at dusk. His son, guided by Shep, freed him before suffocation. He survived with broken nerves and no broken bones.
Dispatches from Provisional Governor Magoon report deadly unrest in Cuba on Sunday. In Santo Spiritus a Conservative waving a Spanish flag provoked a clash with Liberals as Conservative speakers were escorted into town. A police officer killed one man. eight others wounded.
Robert Bruce comptroller of the London postal service and W Pugh of his staff arrived in Chicago from Washington where they were greeted by Postmaster General Myer. They will tour offices in other U S cities to gather ideas for improving London service and said American practices contain many excellent elements to be adopted.
Successor for McCleary. Joseph Stewart of Missouri, superintendent of the division of railway adjustment in the post office department, has been appointed second assistant postmaster general, succeeding James T. McCleary of Minnesota, who resigned to run for Congress.
At Denver on September 29 the American Bankers Association debated postal savings banks and a guaranteed bank deposit system. John Schuette of Wisconsin supported guaranty to curb postal savings banks, while Governor Herrick of Ohio denounced it as unsound. The section favored opposing postal savings banks and endorsed opposing any guaranteed deposit law.
Pittsburg marked its 150th birth anniversary with a morning program led by salutes and whistles from mills factories railroads and steamboats. The Daughters of the American Revolution dedicated a tablet to George Washington at the block house Fort Duquesne as part of day one events.
Mayor Guthrie and Samuel Harden led a city council reception at the Dugesne gardens for distinguished guests, celebrating community leaders and notable visitors in a formal gathering.
Saginaw Michigan reports Embezzlement charges against George J Little secretary of the People's Building and Loan association were settled and he was freed from criminal prosecution. His wife turned over her property to the Baltimore Bonding Co to secure his release. Assets may not cover the loss, but the association does not lose a dollar.
The Galveston dispatch claimed Joseph W. Bailey would resign from the U S Senate and leave Texas. Bailey and wife arrived in New York with Mrs. Bailey declaring the report untrue and noting no plans to resign or change their residence.
Terre Haute Indiana September 29 William Smith almost died from a marble lodged in his throat ten years ago. Ten years of trouble swallowing led to near starvation before doctors performed surgery to clear the esophagus and restore breathing. Surgeons expect rapid improvement after the operation.
Saginaw Michigan September 29 serious charges may be made after the sudden death of William George sixteen son of Mr and Mrs Charles Kaufeld Buena Vista. George came home from school complaining of illness and died in convulsions. In delirium he cried out that two colored lads at school had given him poison.
Jackson Mich September 29 Cashier W H Burletson of the Parma bank waived reading of the bill of complaint when arraigned in Justice Russell's court. His hearing is set for October 6 with bail fixed at $8 000. Burletson says he will not appeal to former friends and will likely remain in jail.

Mrs. Rebecca Edom-Wilson, seventy five, longtime housekeeper to Col. Henry Shaw founder of Shaw's Botanical Garden in St. Louis, died by suicide in Pittsfield. She hanged herself to lattice work in the rear yard, the tragedy deemed due to despondency.
The Prussian Academy of Science under government patronage inherits 7.5 million dollars from banker Sampson. The funds are to be expended for scientific purposes.
Roosevelt and Burrows Center Washington Sept 20 Senator Burrows of Michigan called on the president to discuss tariff readjustment. He chairs the subcommittee investigating the subject and with the committee has heard testimony in Washington and New York. He said all committee members favor a readjustment.
A badly decomposed man about forty five, bald, was found with a bullet hole in the head on the Chicago and Alton right-of-way in Bloomington. A ten dollar gold piece and a revolver lay nearby, prompting a murder mystery in the area.
Chicago markets report opening mixed results with hog receipts around 14 000 and cattle slow but gently steady. Official yesterday receipts 22 350 and shipments 2 567. estimated today 14 000 and tomorrow 23 000 as bulk and heavy shipper grades hold around 6 40 to 7 25. Sheep totals near 30 000 show weakness while Texas and Western cattle present varied price ranges across beves cows and yearlings.

Fleming, who left Paisley at 15 for the seas, has lived on Arne for twenty-five years with his wife, and plans to depart after completing his sight-seeing.
In Columbus Ohio on September 29 a ten year old Knight was killed by a live wire while trying to save his seven year old brother. The boy and two other youths were severely injured while walking to school as they attempted to jump a metal fence that had become electrified.
