Americans claim victory paratroops battle near An Khe
In near Saigon area, the 101st Airborne Brigade reportedly killed about 57 Viet Cong at 40 yards range near An Khe. The unit suffered light casualties. Communist guerrillas attacked multiple outposts south of Saigon, killing five civilians including two women, and a village chief was executed at a flagpole. A U.S. Embassy spokesman cited additional American civilian deaths when a twin-engine plane was shot down near Bao Tri. The firefights spanned several districts with air support and counterattacks by U.S. forces.
