Olds Church to Mark Centennial Thursday

The Olds Congregational Christian church will celebrate its centennial on Thursday October 7 with all day services led by Rev. Joseph Carswell. Karston Appeals To Iowa Supreme Court

William G. Karston 29 of Hamilton Illinois today appealed his sentence to the Iowa Supreme Court. He was to be hanged in August 1955 for the Pulaski slaying of Wendell Jones. Almer Anderson 22 of South St. Paul Minnesota received a life term for the July 25 holdup murder. District Judge Heinrich Taylor denied a new trial and Karston’s request to withdraw his guilty plea. He argued the gun fired accidentally during a struggle.

Clinton Boy Dies After Car Collision Injury

Freddie McClain six died in St Luke's Hospital Davenport from a brain injury after running into the side of a car in Fulton Iowa Sunday. He was visiting relatives and playing with other children when the accident occurred. An autopsy was planned and the driver was Richard Vander Schaaf Fulton police said.

Residents Aid Search for Missing Sioux City Boy

In Sioux City 8 year old Jimmie Bremmer remains missing after a four week absence. Residents and business owners conducted ground searches for clues while National Guard help stood by at the Armory. Guardsmen and police scoured three rivers and a creek and investigators pursued more than 100 leads without success. A 50 year old salesman who saw the boy the night he vanished is undergoing psychiatric treatment after denying involvement.
