King George In Coma After Lung Operation

London reports King George is in a semi comatose state after yesterday's lung surgery. A court spokesman said it would be at least three days before doctors can judge success amid ongoing opiate sedation and concerns over a possible arterial condition. Wallace Defends His Report on China

Eastland Purchases Stutsman Optic Practice

Dr. Robert Q. Eastland buys the optical equipment and portion of Stutsman’s practice and will move into the Stutsman offices this week. Stutsman will continue medical care for eye ear nose and throat and share space at the McLaughlin location while Eastland keeps quarters in the Journal building. Chicaqua Chapter to Meet This Evening

Members of the Chicaqua chapter of the Izaak Walton league will hold their regular meeting this evening September 24 at St Jamies social hall. Battleship New Jersey Bombards Hills in Korea

The battleship New Jersey fired 16 inch guns from off the eastern coast to aid United Nations infantry on the hill line. An air observer said the shells removed three feet of hillside. Four Americans captured Hearthy Hill north of Yanggeu after a two hour fight with a Communist regiment.

Daytons Purchase Raberta Beauty Salon

Mr and Mrs Don Dayton announced their purchase of the Raberta Beauty Salon and will run it this morning. Don Dayton formerly lived in Kalona and Mrs Dayton hails from Wellman, with the couple having resided in Burlington for two years. Ray Minick, longtime owner of Raberta, plans to devote full time to Kiple and DePrenger furniture, a business he co-owns with Bob Speed.

No Charges Filed In Des Moines Death

Robert O. Nelson was released after a medical report found J. Dwight Scott died of a stroke. County Attorney Clyde E. Herring stated no charges would be filed, noting the blow did not cause the death. The incident stemmed from a scuffle before Scott collapsed at Broadlawns General Hospital.

Chance Case Set For Mental Hearing In September

Frank Kephart 84 Dies at Washington Farm Home

Frank Kephart 84 died at his farm home 3 1 4 miles south east of Washington Sunday evening after years of ill health. Funeral services are set for 2 PM Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Christian church and burial will follow in Grove cemetery. He was born December 11 1866 on the same farm and married Mary Helle Sickels April 2 1890. He spent his life in Washington county and is survived by his wife two brothers a sister a half sister and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Slight Chance For Siamese Twins Separation

X ray tests today showed slim chances of separating Siamese twins born last week with joined heads. Doctors expect more tests this week before deciding on any operation. The twins have separate brains and appear normal otherwise. Parents Mrs Roy Brodie of East Moline hope for surgery but will prepare to bring the babies home if not possible.

Services Held for Mrs Varney 89 in Columbus Junction

Mrs J C Varney 89 of Seymour died Saturday at Memorial hospital Mt Pleasant after a fall Sept 10 at her daughter's home in Columbus Junction. Funeral today and a second service Tuesday at the Seymour Methodist church with burial there. Survivors include two daughters a son a sister and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Methodist church and Eastern Star.
