President Roosevelt quits trip for knee operation in Indianapolis
President Theodore Roosevelt abandoned his Northwest tour after a trolley accident at Pittsfield Massachusetts left a knee bruise and a small abscess. Doctors decided on immediate surgery at St Vincent's hospital in Indianapolis forcing him to rest at least ten days and proceed to Washington. Cortelyou announced the operation and said no danger and no longer tour.
