Four-year terms really nothing new for state
Iowa will not inaugurate a first four year term for its chief executive in 1974 despite belief. Early governors Briggs Hempstead and Grimes served four years under the 1846 constitution. Since 1857 the chief executive has faced two-year terms. Voters approved in 1972 to restore four-year terms.
