The war department announced Algona prisoner of war camp will be vacated from December 1 to February 15. The facility cost 1,280,668 dollars and began receiving prisoners early last year. Surplus property rules will apply after closure, with no details on transfer or repatriation of prisoners. The camp’s capacity is 3,000, but about twice that many Germans are currently housed in the camp or in 22 side camps across South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa.
