The Iowa corn crop for August is estimated at 589,992,000 bushels, only 80 percent of the 1943 record. Soybeans total 37,314,000 bushels with signs of uneven pod growth. oats yield 30.0 bushels per acre from 147,150,000 bushels total. Total tonnage cut is 5,724,000,000 tons with 1.75 tons per acre, hay generally good despite rain-damaged early cuttings.
