Senator Albert Cummins told Des Moines credit men that those who advocate overthrow by force are criminals who should face life in prison. He labeled J W W as unfit and urged stamping out radical propaganda while upholding free speech within lawful limits.
San Diego naval court heard Lt. Blodgett describe radio signals from Point Arguello as still north of the point. The crew then plotted a reverse course and struck rocks well north of Arguello, contradicting a statement that Watson accepted responsibility for the change in course.
Des Moines Iowa September 19 Damage to the Iowa corn crop running up to thirty per cent in some sections is blamed on last week’s cold spell. The late planted lowlands suffered most as cool weather slowed growth. About one third of the state was affected while many farmers saved most of their crop with frost protection. Much winter wheat has been seeded.
Berkeley Calif September 19 police chief orders a morning search of fire ruins to locate bodies from buildings burned during the disaster. Investigators will examine every wrecked structure to confirm rumors of people who jumped to death. The fire zone remains under martial law as guardsmen navy personnel and police maintain order while rebuilding begins and insurance claims near four million dollars.
Sven Oleson a 26 year old nurse died after a man drove up with her body in a car claiming she was ill. Sister Baptista a Belgian nurse saw the man flee as English was limited. Doctors found no signs of violence and suspect narcotic poisoning.
Cedar Rapids reports that Charles Lamb aged 45 a wealthy grocer and Mrs Shin ners also 45 were killed after Lambs motor truck stalled on the track as a Northwestern train struck them in Tama yesterday.

In a Newport incident during night maneuvers the battleship Arkansas and the destroyer McFarland collided off Newport. The destroyer was damaged on the port forward side and, escorted, headed to Boston for repairs.
A noon meeting between George L. Berry of the international printing pressmen and assistants union and New York web pressmen’s union No 25 offered the main chance to settle a strike that began when morning paper workers walked off after midnight yesterday. Four people were injured when their car hit a post on Grand Avenue near Polk Boulevard. C. V. Blackford of Boone sustained the most serious injuries, including arm and chest injuries with possible internal damage. A charge of reckless driving was filed against Blackford.
Tulsa reports five men freed in civil court after being indicted by Governor Walton's military commission for mob violence. Oklahoma City notes martial rule approaching a climax as legislators plan an extraordinary session to probe state conditions and possibly impeach Walton. Military courts in Tulsa and statewide continue hearings with no completion date.
Joseph Horace of Chicago was arrested in Cedar Rapids this morning with an automobile full of booze valued at over a thousand dollars. He planned to supply the city’s wealthiest men, and, just before confinement, asked to telephone a friend who refused.
Thede, a four year old girl, died after a Tuesday afternoon collision in Davenport. She was riding with her father when the car hit a truck. she was thrown from the vehicle and died en route to the hospital.
Robbers broke open the Farmers Bank of Joy Illinois early today and escaped with four thousand dollars. The incident reported by the Associated Press from Galesburg Illinois. No injuries noted and police investigations ongoing.
