Brighton youth arrested in Des Moines for car theft
Michael Nash, 17, from Brighton, was arrested in Des Moines early Wednesday and charged with car theft after deputies said he worked on a stolen car near Cedar Rapids. He faces a breaking and entering warrant in Iowa. Four campers at Lake McBride State Park were charged with possession of marijuana for sale, held at Johnson County jail. Names include Thomas Thomasson, 18, Pelham NY. Thomas Dunas, 18, Queens NY. Douglas Schwickrath, 24, Bayville NJ. Susan, 18, wife of Douglas.

Two area crash fatalities and injuries reported
A two-vehicle accident near Iowa City killed Gale Clay sixteen and seriously injured Harris Miller with three others unhurt. Gale’s brother Raymond Clay drove the car hit head on by Miller’s vehicle, and a third car was sideswiped. Gale was a Mid-Prairie junior, survived by her parents and siblings. In a separate Mount Pleasant area crash, Charles Prottsman Jr., twenty nine, died after his pickup was rear ended by a semi near Clinton. He leaves a wife, parents, a sister and a brother. Funeral arrangements were set for Mount Pleasant.

Story County District Court jur y found 20 year old Beth Aronoff innocent of manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Willie Muldrew, a former Iowa State football standout. The seven men and five women deliberated eight hours and 15 minutes before acquitting the Iowa State coed, daughter of a university professor, shortly after 1 a.m. The trial included testimony she was beaten and forced into sexual relations, with defense arguing self defense. Prosecutor argued she lied about the abuse and that Muldrew, 21, was in love with her before the shooting.
