Work day planned to redecorate Blair House Saturday
Friends of Blair House call a work day for Saturday September 18 starting at 9 am. Board members will be present and volunteers with brushes or rollers are urged to help redecorate the interior ahead of new tenants and upcoming events. DES MOINES IDPA Governor Robert Ray and wife Billie invited to visit Taiwan by Chiang Kai Shek government. If arranged, Rays may depart late this month for about 10 days. Ray was part of a 1974 governors delegation to the Chinese mainland.

Former Storm Lake Resident Denies Admitting Christensen Killing
Bruce Grieme 26 of Brandon South Dakota testifies he did not incriminate himself in a gas station chat on October 17 1971 the day Jeanine Christensen was found dead in her Storm Lake apartment nor at a party two years later. Michael Dean Peterson 26 of Storm Lake is charged with manslaughter in Christensen slaying. The two were engaged to marry when she was found strangled.

Washington County faces 4000 unregistered voters before Oct 23
An estimated 4,000 eligible voters in Washington County may be disenfranchised for the November 2 election if they do not register by Oct. 23. Voter registration has been required since 1975 and remains valid unless address or name changes. County Elections Commissioner Walter Schroeder notes ongoing efforts with 19 deputy registrars, including party affiliated auxiliary registrars and temporary registrars. There are 7,694 registered voters, with roughly half Republicans, 27 percent independents, and 23 percent Democrats. A Census Bureau survey in 1974 cited apathy as the main reason for not registering.
