Bernard Manley chairman of the Iowa state liquor control commission was indicted by the Polk county grand jury on a charge of violating the state liquor control act related to recovering 17 500 contraband liquor seals. manley allegedly sold seals to mike mercurio who paid about 500 for two blocks. manley was briefly detained then released on 1000 bond as investigation followed.
Des Moines report from Federal Meteorologist Charles D. Reed notes good corn ripening weather will persist for several days. Temperatures are expected to stay above normal for the season.
The Coroner's Jury reports Clarence Singmaster of Keota died in an automobile collision on primary road 77 near Richland Iowa on Sept 13 1935. The crash involved Singmaster and Albert Morrow of Delta Iowa both driving at high speed according to testimony.

Saturday evening the fire department responded to a hollow tree fire on West Third Street near the Hayes property. Firemen feared the adjacent house could be endangered but the blaze was quickly extinguished.

Sioux City September 17 Mayor W D Hayes was reinstated after the ouster case was dismissed by District Court Judge W W Scott brought from Davenport. The ruling follows a grand jury inquiry into state wide graft and political corruption. More trials are expected for about two score indicted individuals as proceedings proceed.
Rev. W. F. Ogleton is reassigned to the Muscatine Washington and Iowa City AME circuit. He and his wife and Rev. and Mrs. W. R. Stewart were in town en route from Des Moines to Chicago after attending a conference. Ogleton’s father Rev. W. H. Ogleton moves to Des Moines district to oversee churches in Iowa and South Dakota. The district reports growth and higher funds. the local pastor will reside in Muscatine and begin in Washington by Oct 1 reorganizing all departments. Mrs. H. R. Crayton attended the Des Moines conference and returned home.
Toronto report indicates Leo nard Koenecke a major league player was killed in a midair confrontation with two aviators while being sent back to Rochester from St Louis. Authorities said he planned death by action and an arrest was prepared for pilot William Mullqueeny and Irwin Davis on technical charges.
A thief entered A. E. Atchison’s residence at 308 South Third Avenue last night by removing a screen and opening an unlocked window. Clothes including a suit and shirt were taken, but no other items were disturbed. a pair of pants remained. Sheriff H. M. Putnam was notified.
A raid on a farmer George Box's watermelon patch near Ottumwa resulted in the death of Donald Kendall twenty an employee of a packing company. Kendall and four companions were approached by a shotgun blast from an unseen shooter and Kendall died instantly. Box was held for questioning in the county jail. A shotgun was found at the Box home and no charges filed yet while awaiting county attorney consultation.
The ball player was killed in a hand to hand fight as his chartered plane zigzagged over lower Ontario. His attorney claimed strong indications the player planned to crash the aircraft in Detroit. Mullqueeny and Davis admitted the fatal struggle occurred early today.

Alonzo Beitel of the Grace Hill community pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated. He was sentenced to five months in the county jail with the sentence suspended for good behavior and paroled to Ralph Brinning. Beitel had been indicted by the September grand jury.

Thousands expected in Washington for a fall opening day featuring free watermelon in Central Park and a packed schedule. The Chamber of Commerce sponsors acts by Professor Dryden and a pet and doll parade led by the high school band. Washington schools will dismiss at 3 PM to allow participation.
