Tipton man suffocates in corn bin on farm
Gary Laing, 27, was found suffocated Friday while working in a corn bin on his parents farm in Tipton. His father George Laing, 56, died of a heart attack about two hours later after helping remove his son's body from the bin. Officials said they do not know how Gary entered the bin and that the family had been hauling corn most of the afternoon.

Kidnapping Suspects Sought After Iowa City Abduction
A Davenport man told Illinois State Police that two men abducted him from Iowa City, one brandished a knife, they fled with his car to Annawan and the vehicle was found abandoned near Wyanet. Troopers planned air searches as authorities cross state lines to capture the suspects, described as in their early 20s, white, one with short hair and the other shoulder length.

Tragic High School Student Dies In Highway Crash Near Washington
Janice Marie Keeler a 16 year old Highland Community High junior died Friday night when the car carrying seven youths left Highway 92 near the Rex Smith curve four miles east of Washington. Driver David Bartmann 16 and Jim Schneider 15 sustained minor injuries while others escaped injury. The crash occurred after a Highland football game at 10 05 p m with the car rolling in a ditch. Keeler was thrown from the vehicle as it rolled over. Funeral services are set for Monday at 2 p m at the United Presbyterian church in Lone Tree with burial in Lone Tree Cemetery. Visitation begins Sunday noon at Sorden Adams Funeral Chapel. Keeler daughter of Robert and Sharon Musser Keeler, born July 15 1956 in Iowa City, is survived by her parents, a brother Russell, sisters Sheri and Kellie, and grandparents Fay Musser and spouse.
