Four union barbers were arrested in Fort Madison after attempting to enforce union prices by occupying chairs in non union shops. Union men formed a group, called on non union shops, and sat down in the shops. Four men were later arrested for willful trespassing and malicious mischief.
Newton authorities say friction started a blaze that destroyed a Baker Truck Co. vehicle on Highway 6 near Homestead. Harold Horner of Newton drove the truck from Milwaukee with gasoline motors worth 4000 dollars, all lost in the fire.
Police seek Sam Binley after a man claiming to be the uncle of a 23 year old ward of the state hospital for the insane at Independence obtained a visit permit and drove away with her from the hospital grounds.
Iowa Legionaire editor Frank F. Miles said 14 foot cornstalks would be carried by about 1000 Lowans in a Broadway parade next Tuesday during the national Legion convention. Franklin H. Becker, 21, former Woolworth store assistant manager, is held in Troy New York on larceny charges after leaving with $172 missing and has waived extradition.
Logan, a Council Bluffs resident, refuses to pay a $10 fine after a guilty intoxication charge. Mayor Frank Rainier orders him to a bread and water diet as punishment.
A TS-year-old man, claiming to be named BKB W Pope, arrived at the Spirit Lake Dickinson County Home on Saturday saying he planned to visit his son Bert. Officials report he cannot recall events or details beyond fearing his children will worry, and he wandered there after saying he “went for the horses.”
Waterloo's 17 year old Howard Parker, a high school senior delivering for a local dairy, fell onto shattered milk bottles after catching a trouser leg on a parked car bumper. He suffered a throat wound from ear to ear, a cheek gash, windpipe injury, and required 20 stitches for throat laceration and four for the cheek. He drove three blocks to a physician before rescue. He is regaining strength and listed out of danger barring pneumonia.
Des Moines officials announce office desk reassignments under a moving plan. G W Kirtley the governor's $4500 executive assistant will occupy the inner reception room desk, while Robert Burlingame shifts to the outer desk. Three stenographers move from an adjoining room to the outer space, freeing inner room for the Greater Iowa Commission if it moves to the state house from Fort Des Moines.
The Davenport Ministerial Association launches a campaign to tighten Iowa marriage laws. A committee led by Rev. Dr. Alfred B. Nickless and Rev. Walter H. is calling for physical examinations before marriage licenses are issued.
A baby boy was born to Mrs. Frico Dichames of Brighton as she was being taken to Washington County Hospital. The mother and infant arrived with the attending physician present and both are reported in good condition. The newborn weighs six pounds three ounces.
The Upton pastor of Berea Congregational Church is appointed to submit a resolution to the next Iowa general assembly asking for revision of marriage laws. The association proposes a statute similar to the one now in effect in Illinois.
Judge P. J. Siegers sentenced Kuch Bishop to three months in the county jail for driving while intoxicated and banned his license for a year. Elmer Clapton received a ten year state prison sentence for forgery after pleading guilty to writing a $21.80 check and signing another name at a Jefferson tavern.
Des Moines report shows Jowans spent 29 598 200 on automobiles since April 16, yielding 591 964 in two percent use tax revenue. Monthly totals include 51 406 97 for April, 151 334 for May, 235 616 27 for June, 132 084 for July, and 121 321 33 for August.
The Iowa commerce commission granted franchises for more than 100 miles of rural electric transmission lines. The action includes 29 miles in Louisa and Henry counties to Iowa Southern Utilities Company.

Washington Postmaster M DeLong announces two Saturday mail deliveries for the business section starting next Saturday with earlier residence deliveries. The Milwaukee train arrival at 9 58 will no longer delay carrier routes as a second business delivery follows the regular distribution.
