Des Moines Versus Corbett Big Ball Game at Burlington

September 17 features Des Moines and Corbett the famed pugilist at first base for Burlington. Fare is $1 round trip with a special train back and tickets valid until the 18th. Hr. R. Puller conducts but one school here and claims patrons for merit. Miss Anna Crawford arrives from Fairfield to visit Miss Ida Roberts then travels to Chicago. Large Livery Barn Fire Ravages McElwain & Browns Grounds

A major blaze at McElwain and Browns livery barn sparked about 9 20 pm trapping over 2000 onlookers. The fire gutted the haymow and storage rooms, horses and carriages were saved with effort, two carriages and sleighs lost, and the building insured for 1000 with total loss around 2500. The origin remains a mystery but quick action by the Fire Company and citizens averted greater damage. The firm plans to rebuild after insurance.

Craven Pencil Forgery Claim Settled in Tromp over Noes

Mrs Craven’s pencil declaration is ruled a forgery as a settlement concludes the case with noes 41 to 404. The ruling confirms the fraudulent instrument and ends the dispute.

Heirs Win After Jury Disagrees In Fair Estate Case

San Francisco Sept 1 Judge Jude Slack ruled for the heirs of Senator Fair after a mistrial in the An gus Craven looting case. The jury stood eight to four for Mrs Craven when it failed to agree on forgery of pencil deeds signed by James G Fair and alleged conspiracies with Notary Cooney. The court found the deeds forged and the acknowledgments invalid. A thirty day stay was granted before further action. Real estate transfers and notices followed, with local auctions and a trip sale announced for September 18.

Probate court disposes bulk of three days work

After three days in court little happened until yesterday when a large amount of probate business was resolved. The grand jury continues work on two or three cases, with no startling public disclosures expected. The notable action was the dismissal of the Dougherty Harland damage suit and the Dougherty divorce. A full list of probate and law and chancery dispositions follows, detailing guardianships, will admit­tances, and final discharges.
