A horse and buggy driven by Laura Miller, 17, was struck by a cement truck driven by Russell Ehrenfelt on Highway 22 in Kalona at 9:45 am. The horse swerved into the truck, the buggy overturned, and Laura and Mrs. Laura Miller were released with no injuries. The horse was injured and may be destroyed. buggy damage was $75.

Light turnout in county school elections across districts
Washington County voters cast few ballots with several unopposed races. In Washington district Carl Dallmeyer beat Lewis McFadden 147 to 22 in director district four while Robert Kleese ran unopposed and won 33 votes in area three. Frank Kos got 219 votes for treasurer. Highland district saw Robert Gerot defeat Carl Roberts 62 to 54 for a three year board term. Columbus district Lewis Newell, unopposed, was re elected with 110 of 111 votes. Keota’s Charles Lyle led with 99 of 102 votes in a three year term. In Waco district Eugene Baker 111 and Herbert Hult 113 contested director at large. both unopposed.
