John A. Johnson pleaded guilty to the murder of Annie Lemberger, a seven year old kidnapped from her bed in Madison Wisconsin. He was sentenced to life in the state prison after a rapid courtroom plea and removal to avoid lynching.
Iowa board of railroad commissioners cites evidence from a local business man showing midwest express firms charge double regular rates for non prepaid packages. The information goes to the interstate commerce commission as part of a national investigation into express rate fairness. Commissioner Clifford Thorte fears railroads could cut express business if rates shift.
James J. Ward began the Hearst $590,000 ocean to ocean air race from Governor's Island heading west toward San Francisco. Despite the Towle crash, Ward pledged to fly east again within three days and drew strong interest from Army personnel watching the start. He appeared slim, fair and youthful to onlookers.

Joseph Mueller aged 31 an attendant at the state hospital for the insane at Norristown was beaten to death by Benjamin K Price one of the criminal patients at the Institution in Philadelphia.
