Seattle reports the death of William Moran, a ship builder from the Moran family involved with the battleship Nebraska. He is the fourth of eight Moran brothers to die in four years. The article mentions transport to Ponto Anna, Cook, and Francke collections of ivory and kin reportedly stolen.
In Demopolis Alabama on September 14 two Black men Robert Gully and John Holly allegedly killed a white woman in William Gray's home. Gray fought them wounding Holly with an axe before Holly died in a posse's return fire.
Berlin witnesses Orville Wright fly twice despite a strong wind. In the afternoon he completed a ten minute flight with Professor Ergesell aboard as passenger.
Washington reports Admiral Jorge Dewey pleased by navy crews at Virginia Capes target practice. He cited Louisville’s perfect 16 hits in 16 shots and praised Connecticut as the navy’s best all around battleship. Dewey, back in Washington from Hot Springs, said he felt pride in the crew’s performance.
Philadelphia September 14. America earned the right to challenge Australia for the Davis Cup by winning the doubles match three sets to two. The U S pair R D Little and H H Duckett defeated W C Crawey and J C Parke to claim the victory.
An explosion tore through a boiler at the Lurline baths on Geary street injuring about half a score of people with several believed fatally hurt. Patrons were hurled through windows and walls. several injured remain in critical condition including Mrs. Eliza Eichler and sister Mrs. Joseph Obenshaw-Phoite.
In Dubuque Iowa on September 14 Hilda Wade age two the daughter of William Wade of 709 Delhi Street wandered to a neighbor and entered a house where she fell into a vault and suffocated before help could reach her.

Mercantile groups and railroads join in resolutions, with express companies under review. The federal committee opposes bank deposit guarantees and postal savings banks, proposing nationwide savings banks via national banks with segregated capital.

The eleventh annual Fraternal Order of Eagles convention opened in Omaha with Chairman Robert F. Bacon presiding from 10 o'clock this morning in the auditorium.
Caswell L. Mills of Ackley Iowa a traveling passenger agent for Illinois Central Railroad based in New York collapsed and died from apoplexy in a department store. Mills formerly served as city passenger and ticket agent for Illinois Central at Omaha Nebraska.
Holmeshurst Inn in Edgmere is destroyed by a morning fire believed incendiary. Seventy five guests and twenty employees escaped. several leaped from a second story balcony. The frame structure was heavily damaged and the hotel valued at about 75000 dollars.

In Utica New York on September 14 three Italian children were attacked by a lone gunman. Theresa Precipio seven years old died from a shot through the heart. Freddy Infusino three years old is badly wounded with internal injuries and Fanny Infusino six years old suffers a severe wound to the left arm. The kids were last seen with an unknown man, leaving investigators searching for motive.
A. W. Harris, agent for the Iowa Central, was held up near the Mason City depot at 1 a m by women. He received a heavy blow to the head with a club but escaped and ran to the depot. He had returned on a midnight train from Minneapolis and was en route home.
Des Moines observed a day of mourning as funeral rites for Isaac Brandt were conducted this afternoon by Rev. J. W. Day at the First Presbyterian church. Flags in all Des Moines parks were flown at half mast.
