Lawler elected commander in chief at Pittsburg encampment

Col. Thomas G. Lawler of Rockford Illinois was chosen by a narrow margin as commander in chief of the Grand Army of the Republic at the national encampment in Pittsburg. The vote totaled 449 with Lawler defeating Col. Walker of Indianapolis by eleven votes.
