A fire last night destroyed the Chalmer elevator in town, the fifth to burn in the area. Arthur Minick aided with two water streams as rain helped dampen adjacent structures. The blaze damaged the north end and left six oats bins saved. insurance will determine the final loss while Chalmers considers rebuilding.
A Milwaukee grain elevator on Port Huron Avenue was ruined by a fire sparked by a bolt of lightning at about 12 30 a m. J W Couch notified depot agent H Gilliland, and firefighters under Chief directed efforts as smoke billowed from the roof and the structure burned, leaving most of the building destroyed with walls standing.
