Reports from Buffalo indicate the president’s stomach injury is healing and his general condition improves. Beef juice digestion, stable temperature, and normal respiration suggest progress with doctors planning no transfer to Washington until full recovery. Mrs. McKinley remainsFortitude evident as she maintains composure during the crisis.
In Chicago Magistrate Prindiville ordered Emma Goldman held without bail pending higher court action. Goldman, defiant and self represented, faced continued hearing as prosecutors sought time to review Buffalo investigations. Superior Judge Cheflain then postponed ruling until later in the day as other anarchists awaited writs of habeas corpus.
Josh Westhafer of Loogootee Indiana says Chamberlain's Pain Balm kept him from becoming a cripple. He praises it for stiff joints contracted muscles sprains and rheumatic pains and notes it even cured partial paralysis. The product is sold by Stewart's Pharmacy and Cook Sherman.
The discussion centers on bailability in capital cases and the sufficiency of affidavits. The court is told that the affidavit must be based on personal knowledge from oral examination, not mere opinion. Counsel argues constitutional requirements were not met in Miss Goldman’s case.

Washington reports Admiral Schley's counsel submitted a formal challenge to Admiral Howison. The document is brief and backed by witnesses, including Frost of the Boston Record who published the alleged Howison interview. Additional witness names are withheld pending court appearance.
In Ann Arbor on September 12 a group of fourteen Homeopathic hospital nurses went on strike against principal Miss Julia Nichols. The dispute arose when Miss Nichols ordered Miss Mullenhauser to substitute for Miss Pomeroy for two hours, and nurses protested strict grooming and whispering rules.
William Jennings Bryan will arrive in Chicago at 8:15 pm to attend the Harrison League celebration at Sunnyside park Saturday. A committee of 300 members will meet him at Union station and Bryan will deliver the principal address at the evening picnic. On the way he will speak in Monmouth.
In Minneapolis on Tuesday night the decomposed body of a man was found in the river. He is believed to be Thomas Denny, 20, of Bellefontaine Ohio, who came to Minneapolis last May to work as a tin smith apprentice and disappeared August 24. Local authorities gave cautious identification based on papers found with the body.
Jacob M. Chillas owner of the Boston store in South Bend has offered to pay creditors 33 1-3 percent to settle claims. A creditors meeting is set for Sept. 30 in Indianapolis to vote on the proposal. Total debts amount to about $27,000.
The National Baptist Association convened at Zion Baptist church in Cincinnati on September 12, with over 2,000 delegates in attendance. The meeting will run for five days as the largest colored Baptist organization in the world gathers.
D. E. Swim of Stonington, vice president of Pratt-Baxter Grain, was accidentally shot in the right side while hunting with two companions near Taylorville Illinois on Tuesday and died instantly.
A. W. Swanson, 45, was killed at Terre Coupee yesterday when his body was cut in two across the abdomen. He leaves a wife and ten children.
At 1 o clock today the Schley court of inquiry convened at the Navy Yards with Admirals Dewey Benham and Howison in civilian dress. Admiral Schley and his counsel arrived at 12 45 and the hearing began as Schley challenged Howison amid guarded proceedings.

Detroit reports Tom Bawden a local single tax advocate was arrested after inciting crowd trouble on the campus wagon stage. He praised Leon Czolgosz and condemned McKinley assassination, provoking police to remove him amid calls to drive anarchist supporters from town.

Reports say an expedition of about 1,000 Venezuelan troops led by Davila landed on the Colombian coast a few miles northeast of La Hacha. A separate force led by a Colombian named Castillo moves toward La Hacha with Liberals and Venezuelan sympathizers. Total force around 1,500 to 2,000, with frontiers near Santa Marta. Venezuela has a temporary naval base at San Carlos with arms and coal.
Elwood Indiana September 12 Walter Shores formerly jailed in Michigan City for murder has received notice of final release from the sentence and the accompanying restrictions He has been living in Elwood since his release and has been an exemplary citizen.
