WINFIELD Iowa September 11 1895 correspondence reports the Great I D air fair opening with ample stalls for cattle hogs horses and sheep filled. bicycle races and a five mile handicap Friday at 11 am attract entries from across the country. Balloon ascensions planned daily as one of the week’s highlights with exhibits of fruits vegetables corn pastries and farm implements.

Fugitive Forgery Suspect Brought From Ft Madison
Deputy Sheriff Black arrived from Ft Madison with C A Mekern who just finished a year in the penitentiary for forgery. He was at Guthrie county and, about March a year ago at Brighton, forged two checks and attempted many more using the name Josiah Godlove, a bridge contractor, as the accused. Brighton residents testify against him.
