The fourth annual convention of the Iowa State Policemen s association will be held here on September 14 to 16. More than 200 police men are expected.
Governor Alf M Landon the Republican nominee is set to address Des Moines on the evening of September 22 instead of September 21 the change indicated by party officials. The appearance is expected to draw local supporters and campaign activity in the capital.
Waterloo municipal waterworks posted earnings of 48987 for the quarter ended June 30 1936 in a report by manager George Shoemaker. The figure surpassed the prior year period by 6655 reflecting improved revenue performance.
Des Moines reports July statistics showing about 63 of every 1000 Iowa families received state or federal money this summer. Aid came through direct relief or wages from federal works projects, with both programs contributing to the total.

George W. Gay aged 38 who was president of the Iowa City Rotary Club died suddenly after a one day illness. He collapsed while at work and died at a local hospital. Gay was a prominent Iowa City businessman and civic figure.
Des Moines bulletin outlines a health education course for Iowa elementary schools. Miss Agnes Samuelson leads with aim to make history in health education in public schools. Collaboration includes Dr. J H Kinnaman and officials from the Iowa Tuberculosis association, the Iowa Physical Education association, the Iowa Medical society, the Dental Hygiene department at the university, the State Association of Registered Nurses, and the Iowa Council for Child Study and Parent Education.
Twenty two boys from Fort Des Moines Waterloo Newton and Marshalltown competed in model plane contests sponsored by Wallace Blake. Over a thousand spectators watched as Clifford Ray aged 16 from Fort Des Moines won with a flying time of two minutes twelve seconds. David Tyrrell, 13 from Marshalltown, placed second with one minute twenty two seconds. Phil Klett, 16, also from Fort Des Moines, finished third with sixteen seconds.
In Eagle Grove Iowa seven year old Mildred Luke died from a fractured skull after a wind storm toppled a tree limb onto her. The Luke farm was among at least 15 damaged farms in O Brien county and Belmonds sugar works roof was blown off. The storm toppled structures near Primghar, dropped 1.5 inches of rain, plunged Reimond into darkness as a 35 degree temperature drop followed the passage of the storm.
Washington observes Labor Day with normal business amid closures at courthouses post office banks and barber shops. Schools reopen with afternoon dismissal as preliminaries begin Tuesday. Some residents attend Riverside observances hosted by St Mary's church crowds gather daily.

The International News Service reports a multi county survey indicating homesteads will pay about 17 percent of the first 2500 valuation in 1933 property taxes. Twelve rural counties show 26 861 homesteads paying 1 149 000 of 6 900 000 total taxes. Prof C Woody Thompson of the University of Iowa says urban counties may shift patterns as more areas are studied.
The revival meeting at Pleasant Hall church opened with strong attendance in morning and evening services. A 23 member delegation from Roester Christian church attended with Rev. Wilhite and his wife. Wednesday night is Pleasant Hill night. services run nightly 7:30 except Saturday. Public invited.
Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie E Reeves wife of Alvin E Reeves will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 30 at the L A Jones funeral home conducted by Rev M C Carstens pastor of the Baptist church Burial will be in Elm Grove cemetery She died Sunday morning at Mercy hospital in Iowa City Her last illness lasted a bit over 40 weeks Nellie E Sterling born March 27 1869 on a farm northwest of Washington daughter of John and Elizabeth Bear Sterling married Feb 2 1888 to Alvin E Reeves They had two daughters Mrs Everette Teets Kalona and Miss Faye at home A brother J K Sterling of Michigan City Ind a sister Mrs Charlies Blandin of St Louis Mo Also son Dayley Reeves who died of pneumonia in France during WWI

Kansas Governor Alf Landon, running for president, appealed to organized labor to heal the split in the American Federation of Labor. He urged tolerance, good citizenship, and unity among labor, veterans, and government at the state Legion convention in Wichita. He warned that unity is essential to protect gains and improve living standards, and condemned cheap labor and sweatshops while calling for continued labor leadership in public affairs.
A pickup owned by John H Younger of Burnington and driven by Rodney Maxwell collided with a Lytle grocery delivery truck driven by James A Tompson near Heights School this morning. Passengers Cloyce Maxwell Arnold LaFollette and Roy Cook sustained minor injuries as debris spilled on the pavement.
The last Sunset Park concert of the season was yesterday by Milburn McKay and the Washington Municipal band drawing perhaps the largest crowd. About one hundred fifty cars were in the park, and director Herbert Jones praised the entertainment as beautiful. Cool breezes and new green grass enhanced the backdrop. The Washington County band rehearsal schedule shifts to September 15 due to school start.
