Fulbright scholar admits spying in Soviet Union
A 23 year old Fulbright scholar from the University of Pennsylvania pleaded guilty to spying in Russia and was sentenced to eight years in prison. Marvin Makinen of Chassel Michigan, living in Ashburnham Massachusetts, was tried in a Kiev military court for taking pictures of a military objective while traveling as a tourist.

Soviet Nuclear Test Reported In Central Asia
UPI reports the AEC announced another Soviet atmospheric nuclear device in the Central Asian area near Semipalatinsk with a yield in the low to intermediate range. The blast measured about 20 kilotons, smaller than Khrushchev’s claimed big bombs, and it is the 57th Soviet test versus 152 American tests.

Social Security Hike Takes Effect This Week
The ACTUAL social security boost affects over 37 million Americans across ages and groups including aged widows and low income recipients. Western soldiers fire tear gas at East German police in Berlin border clash
US troops on the Berlin border hurled tear gas grenades at East German police who sprayed them with a high pressure water hose. Five or six grenades were tossed over the wall after warnings and a chalk-lined border display.
