Nationalist forces claim 10 000 communist and bandit fighters dead in a concerted attack on the Hunan capital. Government units using armored trains planes and gunboats say they surrounded and destroyed the attackers while civilians fled north amid heavy fighting.
Rev. C. S. Williams of Hills Pi church was elected stated clerk of Town City presbytery at a morning meeting. He succeeds Rev. Low J. Albert of Sigourney, who was released to Lake Superior presbytery to pastor Pine River church Michigan. Williams will serve until the next presbytery session at Bethel church on September 2 and 24. Rev. Vanderlippe of Montana acted as moderator.
Federal prison at Leavenworth Kansas reports the execution of Panzran who called himself the most criminal man in the world. The scaffold stood in a secluded yard while hidden machine guns trained on nearby cell houses. The death sentence followed the murder of a prison guard.
President Hoover weighs a three week trip through Cuba Haiti Santo Domingo and Puerto Rico with possible brief foray to the Panama Canal region. If arranged the voyage would run into the second week of November and avoid returning before Congress elections. Mexico City visit unlikely due to time.

Herbert Coryell, deputy sheriff, was killed by a bullet during a raid on a distillery in Andus HL Sept. Buck Bryant, 16 year old bootlegger, was wounded as officers returned fire.
