The Iowa Secondary Highway Board held its first meeting at the statehouse with Governor Hammill, electing Oscar Helire as chairman and Louis H. Cook as secretary. Members include C. A. Norman, Michale Metz, and James Crawford. The commission will draft a construction program linking secondary roads to the primary system, funded without new taxes, and present it to the legislature.
President Coolidge will be exhibited at the tri state fair in Superior Wisconsin tomorrow. He said he consented to be exhibited but not to speak and preferred fairs where he did not have to address the crowd. He recalled attending fairs in Woodstock Virginia during boyhood.
In Wellston Mrs Ira L Miksch notes a Dodge touring car bought in Crandall Washington and a Sunday trip to Des Moines by Tom Porter with Brinning Barnes and Libe. Miss Katherine Buxbaum spending summer with sister Mrs H A Engel. District attendees at the state fair include Wes Engel Carl Corpman Clarence Jensen Charles Griffith and Robert Miksch. Elmer Kolesick ships hogs to Ottumwa today. School begins Monday with Miss Viola Stout as teacher. Mrs Acel Robertson hosts a gathering for Mrs Howard Snider. Humston boys and Marion McClelland win pony prizes at Dutch Creek fair. Students attending Washington High from the district include Myra Harvey Miriam Miksch Wilma Brinning Lucille and Lloyd Robertson. Will Brinning returns Monday so children enter school. Beulah Miksch vacationing at home. All neighbors attend Dutch Creek Fair. A large crowd serenades Mr and Mrs Howard Snider wedding with a generous treat from Mr Snider. Ralph Brinning's debut a new Ford Tudor sedan. Wilbur and Frank Mecelland summoned to Fairfield by their sister's death. Mr and Mrs Vern Landers Isabella Creswell and Bessie Castle teachers from Brighton attend the institute here.
French sergeants Jean Assolant and Rene Lefevre launched the Yellow Bird from Le Bourget field for a long distance flight toward the Azores. The aircraft faced an oil pump leak and was forced down near Casablanca after a 7:05 a.m. takeoff. The men planned no fixed itinerary, aiming toward Dakar though some reports mentioned New York.
John R. Woods 57 died from injuries after his gravel truck rolled over on Steamer hill near Brighton. Funeral Wednesday at 2 PM in Kalona at the Susan Whetstine home. Burial in Kalona cemetery. Survived by widow Elsie Lemley and children Harold, Mrs. Richardson, Mrs. Hofer, Mrs. Alt, Donald, Lyle, and Marcella across Cedar and Kalona communities. Woods noted as careful driver and Kalona elevator operator.

Mr and Mrs Earl L Morgan of Chardon Kansas arrived last Thursday evening to visit with sister Mrs H D Looney and other relatives including extended family members in a family gathering.
Public schools in Washington county close for two days as teachers gather at the high school for an institute directed by county superintendent Winnie Palmer. Supt J H Peet read the Ames radio address on better town schools, with Dr W W Bowers and Prof George Robb addressing about inspiration and reducing youth crime.
Senator Borah, head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, will lead the push for ratification of the Kellogg anti-war treaty in the December session. He said the pact would curb war urges by strengthening public accountability and cited League of Nations protections. Hoover discussed the matter with Borah at a private lunch as five more nations signaled adherence, bringing supporters to 35.
Dr. M. E. Dicken, new Washington dairy inspector, reviewed 26 dairy sites with reports filed for public viewing at the city clerk’s office. Alfred P. Sloan Jr of General Motors declares his support for Herbert Hoover in the coming election. He says the country is well managed and does not need a change. Sloan adds he favors prohibition for business efficiency despite enforcement flaws.
John Willis of Washington pleaded guilty to driving an automobile while intoxicated in district court before Judge W. Hamilton. He was sentenced to one year at the Anamosa state reformatory but the term was suspended on good behavior and he was committed to the state parole board. Charles Carter of near Wellman faced malicious destruction of property. the case was dismissed on the county attorney’s recommendation.
Washington Indees won 9 to 3 over Wyman at Libe's park in a Labor Day game marked by a big sixth inning of hits off pitcher Davis. Wyman threatened in the late innings but failed to score. Washington heads to Centerville for a first meet with the Centerville Legion team, a southern Iowa contender.

A Chevrolet driven by Ray E. Miller collided with the Milwaukee locomotive at the North Fourth avenue crossing about 6 30 this morning. The train engine suffered minor damage while the car was badly damaged at the front. Miller, who heard the train, believed he was on the Rock Island tracks and attempted to cross when the engine also moved onto the right of way. The driver escaped injury.
Davenport and Waterloo residents gathered at Mrs. Carrie Elwell’s home for a first world war era reunion. Attendees included Arlo Jones family, Dellert Elwell family, Richard Elwell family, Charis Patricia, Harold Elwell, and guests M. T. Cooper and L. L. Morgan.
Mr and Mrs C By Reid finished a week with Sherman Gingerich in Monticello and friends in La Porte City and Norway. They attended races at Cedar Rapids yesterday and were seen enjoying the event with local acquaintances.
