Car Overturns on Highway One Near Washington

Keokuk Man Dies After Tractor Cranked By Error
Keokuk 22 year old Richard Hartman was fatally injured when the tractor he was cranking moved in gear. He had been working for a paving contractor on a project near Keokuk High School and died at Graham Hospital shortly after.

Two Jailbreakers Get Long Sentences
In Creston Iowa two men Ralph Goddard and Earl McKinney were sentenced by Dist. Judge H A Kittleman to long prison terms after pleading guilty to jail break charges. Goddard received one year for the break in plus 25 years for a service station robbery at Afton. McKinney drew one year for the break and seven years on two bad check counts. The sentences will bar early parole.

Seven Cars Pile Up On Way to State Fair
PRAIRIE CITY Iowa UP seven vehicles five bound for the Iowa State Fair piled into each other four miles west of here on Iowa 163 causing an estimated eight thousand dollars in damage. Highway patrolman Max Mc Clure Knoxville said traffic caused one car to stop and six others collided in rapid succession. Traffic was slowed about an hour while wreckage was cleared. McClure called it cars traveling too fast and staying too close together.
