About 30 U S Air Force B52 bombers blasted a guerrilla held rubber plantation and Ho Bo woods 20 miles north-northwest of Saigon in the 17th strike of the war. Ground units reported 22 Viet Cong killed and 5 guerrillas plus 46 suspects captured.

Governor hedges on National Guard use for Labor Day riots

Boy dies in Iowa hog barn fire
Eight year old Michael Poss, son of Donald and his wife, died when a hog barn burned at the Poss farm about 11 miles northeast of Sheldon. Firemen from Sheldon fought the blaze for six hours. Cause of the fire was not known. Balde straw fed the flames and the father recovered the body before firefighters arrived.

Schweitzer in Gabon Hospital Remains in Critical State
Dr Albert Schweitzer, 90, confined to bed at his jungle hospital in Lambarene for a week, remains in a semi coma like condition. Hospital spokesman says his condition continues to cause anxiety as blood pressure falls and no visitors have been permitted for five days.

Pakistan Troops Attack in Kashmir Sparks Violent Fight
A Pakistani assault reportedly broke through Indian defenses six to eight miles inside Indian Kashmir. Heavy tank and air battles raged along the UN truce line as Lal Bahadur Shastri denounced the attack as a planned invasion. David H. McCreedy Dies in Nashville Tennessee
David H. McCreedy 56 died Wednesday in Nashville Tennessee. Reared in Washington he attended school there and Monmouth College. He worked 25 years for Dupont and at death was chief area engineer for the Old Hickory plant. Rules Iowa counties must use jail matron
DES MOINES UPI Iowa Solicitor Gen Timothy McCarthy has ruled that counties must keep a matron on duty whenever a female is being held in jail. McCarthy said payment to such a matron must be made by the county board of supervisors.
