A bale of cotton named The McKinley, circulating among boards of trade nationwide, was auctioned on the Kansas City exchange for 305 dollars to raise funds for the United States hospital fund.

General Miles Ails as War Dept Reports Puerto Rico Troop Movements

Dispatch from Porto Rico dated September 1 1898 shows twelve thousand troops to remain in Porto Rico and about 4600 infantry cavalry and artillery to sail to New York aboard the Obdam Concho Chester Alamo Mississippi and Manitoba under Major General Wilson with Brigadier Generals Schwan Haines and Garretson. Cavalry and artillery will leave with most horses and field transport behind. Miles signs the dispatch as Major General Commanding.
