President Johnson toured the East and Midwest urging peace as essential to national security while campaigning for re election. A Philadelphia security scare paused his motorcade briefly before he spoke at Temple University. Police questioned a man with a hunting rifle found nearby. Johnson then spoke in Detroit focusing on peace and prosperity, and in Milwaukee urged immigration reform to ease family reunifications and adjust quotas. He commented on Khrushchev's ouster, noting a crack in the Kremlin wall and rising impact of Red China and evolving Europe.
Saigon mayor Tran Van Huong, 60, is named the first civilian premier in a year of war and political turmoil. The decision follows the transfer toward civil rule and aims to free the army for the anti Viet Cong fight, pending approval by the 17 member High National Council. Two U S Air Force pilots were killed in a noncombat crash near Saigon during a training flight, raising American war fatalities to 314 in four years.

Edna Bessie Lock 88 died October 29 at the Hadley home Richland. Funeral at 2 p.m. Sunday November 1 at Packwood Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Williams officiating. Burial in Blue Point Cemetery. She was the oldest Packwood Methodist member and active in W C T U Missionary Society and Clover Leaf Club. Survived by brother Frank of Richland and a niece and nephew.

Cyrus M Bush of Washington died suddenly October 28 1964 in Fort Myers Florida after a stroke. Funeral services will be held October 29 at 2 PM at Jones Funeral Home with Rev Richard Peterson officiating. Burial is in Keota Cemetery. He lived at 324 East Washington Street. Survivors include his daughter Irene Plecker of Washington and sisters Bessie Green of Slemmington Missouri and Elmer McCrabb of Clovis California.
UPI reports Sen Barry Goldwater told about 5000 at Cheyenne Wyoming airport that the free world is coming apart at the seams as Johnson sidesteps foreign policy. He cited Turkey Pakistan Cambodia Indonesia Vietnam and Britain to claim U S prestige is sinking and criticized Johnson for turning politics into a circus while promising Social Security support.
Atty Gen Hultman charged Gov Harold Hughes with forfeiting a 1954 bond on a drunken driving charge. Hughes called the disclosure a vial of poison directed at the campaign, while Hultman pressed for a clear record as he campaigned across the state amid Look magazine publicity.

Warmer tonight, cooler west Saturday, lows in the 40s, highs in the 60s. Outlook for Sunday calls for partly cloudy and cooler skies.
Iowa polls show Lyndon Johnson and Harold Hughes leading, with Johnson ahead of Goldwater 70 to 28 and Hughes atop Evan Hultman 64 to 35. The farm vote could push Democrats to strong congressional gains as campaigns expand with air travel and frequent appearances across Des Moines, Audubon, and other communities.
