Police questioned an Army sergeant tied to a Wisconsin kidnapping case and then released him. The sergeant claimed he picked up a girl named Judy in Shreveport, said she had a 5 year old daughter, and that he found blood stained clothes in a tourist cabin. He denied involvement with Evelyn Hartley.
New York officials charged sabotage after a fire damaged a Gold Medal Farms garage during a drive to distribute 50 000 quarts of milk to a crowd left without supplies by a dairy workers strike. More than 500 onlookers watched as firefighters battled the blaze amid stalled negotiations affecting 12 million people.
General Thimayya said 7,800 anti Red North Korean and Chinese prisoners agreed to be questioned by Communist brain washers to determine if they would return home. The date remains uncertain as North Koreans pressed procedural demands and the armistice commission called a meeting to discuss prisoner issues. If not blocked, 500 prisoners may be sent for interviews Saturday morning CST.
Keota Community club hosts a Halloween Parade on Saturday October 31 with costume prizes and a witches wagon. Prizes will be awarded to five paraders 20 minutes after parties end. The defense seeks temporary insanity with Dr Lawrence Colbert testifying, while prosecutors say Dillon admitted possible backhanded harm.

Oslo reports General George C. Marshall and Albert Schweitzer awarded the Nobel Peace Prizes for 1953 and 1952 respectively. Marshall gained fame for the Marshall Plan aiding postwar recovery and resisting communism, while Schweitzer, a French resident and Alsace native, is celebrated for humanitarian work.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home with Dr. W. J. Stevens and Dr. W. J. Grossheim presiding. Pallbearers included Elmer Peiffer Clyde Dawson Ivan Riley Martin Brown Paul Wolfe Roy Rotzinger. Burial followed in Elm Grove Cemetery.

Rev. Walter C. Johannes will be installed as pastor of Trinity Lutheran church in Washington Sunday at 2:30 PM replacing O H Moll who resigned weeks ago. The Johanneses move to 409 East Main Street today from Momence Illinois where he pastored Our Saviour Lutheran Church. He previously served at Sweet Springs Missouri Henry Illinois and Midlothian Illinois. He is a Concordia Seminary graduate from Springfield Illinois and did preparatory work at Concordia College Milwaukee Wisconsin. He is a native of Chicago Illinois.

H. and Franklin of the Iowa Commerce Commission ruled negligence by a Rock Island Railroad crew caused the Oct. 5 collision near Fairfield. A Rock Island passenger train struck the Burlington freight at a crossing injuring three passengers and two crew members. a diesel and four cars derailed as several freight cars left the tracks. Franklin stated the Rock Island crew failed to operate in accord with signal indications.
United Prez Iowa reports a mostly fair night with cooler conditions toward the north and west central areas. Tonight's low 35 to 40, Saturday's high 60 to 65 east and 66 to 72 southwest, with partial cloudiness and little overall change in temperatures.
