Washington saw a three section parade of khaki uniforms at Case Field last night amid rain and a wet field. Civil Air Patrol led, CPT trainees followed, then the State Guard headquarters company, all demonstrating solid training despite the weather. The Citizens Defense Corps canceled participation after the downpour.
Charles Baker, injured in a Brighton runaway two weeks earlier and taken to the county hospital, died yesterday afternoon. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at L. A. Jones funeral home with Rev. Alfred Trenerry officiating and burial in Woodlawn cemetery. Born June 10, 1881, he was adopted after his father's death and lived much of his life in Washington county. he married Lyte Ella Orris in 1907 and worked in farming and at Marion Thompson grocery. He was a Baptist and Odd Fellows member, survived by son Clifford Baker of Fort Smith Ark a sister Mrs Arthur Conrad of Wayland and five grandchildren. his wife died in 1931.

A tornado devastated Berryville and the surrounding five block area killing 28 people. More than 200 were hospitalized in Harrison and Eureka Springs as relief workers searched debris. Survivors sought missing relatives while a small fire was controlled and nurses from nearby towns aided the injured.

A large barn at 633 West Monroe Street owned by John Caldwell was destroyed by a lightning strike last evening around eight. The loss, valued at about 800 dollars, was partly insured and included 80 bales oats hay 40 bales clover hay 30 bales oats straw 40 bushels of ground feed a broad er stove and other items. Eighty chickens escaped one was killed and a cow was saved. Firefighters were hindered by a lightning triggered tree fire and a burned telephone line delaying the alarm. Caldwell rushed to the station but the alarm was already in.
Burlington man Ben Albert Sheldon 86 of East St. Louis was sentenced to up to 10 years in Fort Madison state penitentiary after pleading guilty to breaking and entering and larceny. He admitted breaking into the Black Jewelry Co on October 26.
