Allerton residents approve 347 to 167 to issue bonds totaling 26 000 for a municipal waterworks project with 21 600 funded by the public works administration. This marks the eighth bond vote on the plant in 17 years.
Ed Murray, head of the drivers license division, who had issued over a million licenses, was surprised to learn he had forgotten to renew his own. He took and passed a renewal examination afterward.

An appeal from a Page county district court verdict awarding Joseph Louis Yaney $3,000 for damages after his car was crowded from a bridge near Coin on May 17, 1936 was filed with the supreme court by Floyd Hoskins. His 17-year-old son, Homer Vance, had brought suit in the name of his father against Hoskins, whose 17-year-old son John was driving the car involved.
Mrs. Ray Terrance reports a potato burst while baking at home in Marshalltown. The blast blew off the stove door and sparked an investigation into the cause of the unusual explosion.
LeRoy Pratt of Washington receives appointment as assistant agency manager under the Davenport bureau of Investors' Syndicate. Effective November 1 he will oversee salesmen across six counties: Wapello Jefferson Washington Henry Louisa and Van Buren. The move expands his duties and pay and fits into a broader regional reorganization coordinated from Des Moines.
President Roosevelt and Secretary Morgenthau agreed corn loans will be financed by the RFC to balance the 1938 1939 budget. To underwrite the current corn surplus at about 45 cents a bushel, the RFC will lend the commodities credit corporation between 70 million and 130 million dollars. Jesse Jones attended Washington conferences before Roosevelt left for Hyde Park on the matter. The conferences also focused on financing surplus crop legislation to be sent to Congress for the November 15 special session.

The system logged 5608 items this year including missing persons murders and bank robberies far above 1935 and 1936 levels. Major crimes and thefts have been traced quickly aiding recovery of 1332 of 1639 stolen cars reported to the radio. Interstate checks and 1500 messages with Minnesota Illinois Missouri supplement domestic efforts. A case cited shows a Kansas man informed via radio that his father was seriously ill prompting prompt contact. The arrangement is led by Atty Gen John H Mitchell and B I chief W W Akers with Radio Engineer E F Brown overseeing operations.
Russell Craig exchanges positions with Richard McCutcheon in the Montgomery Ward hardware department. McCutcheon moves to Oskaloosa to assume his new duties there.

John Tucker a prominent local used car dealer signs with Glenn Mace to sell at the Used Car Market on North Iowa Avenue. He will work with Addison Murphy who has led the market. Tucker reports to the new location on Monday November 1 with more announcements to come.
Sheriff reports a gravel detour collision north of Humboldt kills Severt Thornton 40 Irvington his wife 38 sister of Mrs Armstrong 44 Fern Hewitt 22 Livermore and injures three others. The victims were traveling to Livermore in a Thornton auto driven by Severt Thornton.
The November term of the Washington county district court closes with 34 new filings, 15 law cases including notes suits, eight divorces, five partition suits, two title quieting actions, one guardianship, one foreclosure and one equity case. Notable divorces include Bernice Lang v Joseph Lang and M Ernetsine Denison v Charles Denison. A auto damage suit, Okie B Houts v John and Lafayette Stout, seeks 3460 in damages for a July collision seven miles west of Washington with alleged negligent driving and a stopped sign. Damages requested cover 460 for a destroyed car and 3000 for personal injuries. Attorneys George R Fiala and Morrison & Morrison represent the plaintiff.
