Syracuse hosts William J. Bryan and Taft on Oct 20 with standing room only crowds at four Bryan stops and two Taft addresses. Both candidates are hailed by local leaders, greeted with applause, and feud into the Mystique Krewe of Kanoono during a concurrent political event.
William J. Bryan concludes his New York campaign with a Syracuse stop and heads westward. In Syracuse he joined the Order of Mystique Krewe of Kanoona and received the Indian name Heap Big Talk Papoose of the Platte. He spoke in Cohoes Utica Rome Oneida Canastota and Rome urging honesty in government and debating Democratic platform questions. Judge Parker praised Bryan at the Opera House as he arrived and Bryan cited German savings deposit guarantees in his remarks.
Bryan argued banks should supply deposit guaranty themselves, citing Germany as proof against Taft's view. The remark drew loud applause as he praised the German system and criticized tariff policy, calling high protective tariffs the mother of panics and touching on other campaign themes.
Taft drew Republican cheers in Syracuse after visits to Lyons Canandaigua Geneva and Auburn with parades and large audiences. He attacked Democratic falacies and praised McKinley and Roosevelt era governance while discussing injunctions in labor disputes and the meaning of governing.

From all parts of the world missionaries delegates and officers gather in Cincinnati for the general executive meetings of the Women's Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church. William H. Taft pledged a conditional address and bishops will attend as the eleven branch secretaries complete reports and apportion foreign field work. The annual sermon Sunday will be delivered by Bishop J. M. Thorburn, veteran India missionary who retired last May after more than fifty years in the field.
The Modern Woodmen of America suit to set aside an 850000 deposit as a preferred claim against the First National Bank of Chariton is dropped after a conference with the receiver. The deposit will share pro rata with other assets. approximately 250000 remains for the first dividend, about 25 percent of claims, with potential extra funds improving later payments to about 15 percent more.
London Oct. 30 John Burns labor leader and president of the local government board faced sharp criticism from laborites after he said Britons drank more than Americans, attributing unemployment hardship to this factor. The remark prompted strong dispute in the house of commons and drew immediate repudiation of the comparison.
Burne compares unemployment in America and Britain noting similar numbers of idle days but differing in attire and drinking habits. The remark triggers loud protests from the audience shouting that the comparison is untrue and shameful.
