Rear Admiral Train and his son Lieut Train were attacked near Nanking as Americans fired at residents. The admiral accidentally wounded a Chinese woman and, amid a mob, marines landed to assist but faced hostility from villagers and Chinese officials who refused gun rescue.
The Dispatch reports the Czar has shipped all royal plate and jewelry to Copenhagen aboard English ships. The cargo is insured for 83.75 million dollars.
The Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe passenger from Chicago derailed near Sheffield, Kansas City, leaving eight dead. Authorities investigate cause and casualties.

Frank J. Hubbell a Seattle capitalist and club man worth about 250000 died after inhaling illuminating gas in his Hotel Washington apartment. He attached a gas tube to the jet and lay on the floor, succumbing three hours after wife found him unconscious. He was 45 and recently married. Friends say he was happy and financially secure despite the act.

Clara G Wolcott 10,000. twelve nieces and nephews 10,000 each. residue goes to heirs per will with public share yet to be announced.
Deaths reported at a grade crossing when the Whickerbocker fast train struck a wagon carrying Mr. and Mrs. George Dukman. The couple perished and their team was killed. wagon demolished in the Charlestown incident.

William Leduc, a McLean county farmer, fatally shot Charles Nickel mayor of Chenoa and Bank of Chenoa president. Hugh Jones wounded while attempting to disarm him. Loren Barrett and Mae Post, central figures in Hudson’s "avenging angels" tar and feather incident, obtained a Toledo marriage license. Barrett’s brothers and in law aided the mob. Barrett later faced divorce for adultery, while four angels were prosecuted for rioting but convicted of assault and battery.
In Vevay Indiana Jennie Moody shot Stanley Ryan a 22 year old Bennington school teacher at Moody home. Moody claims the shooting was an accident while Ryan said he could not tell if accidental or intentional. He says Moody threatened two weeks earlier to shoot him if he ended their relationship.
