Corpus Christi officials say Joe Marconi violated a 1903 ordinance by keeping wild animals in his yard. The rule bans animals including bears, panthers, catamounts, leopard cats, snakes, lizards, gila monsters etc. The 52-year-old case centers on enforcement of the ordinance.
Witnesses testify at a House Government Operations Committee hearing in Washington about the U. S. Navy purchase of $200 million in McDonnell Demon jet fighters that were unfit to fly. Test flights cost five pilot lives amid the investigation into the program.

Agriculture Secretary Ezra Benson travels to Denver to meet President Eisenhower and declares he will remain in the Cabinet as long as the President wants him. Benson tells about 3,800 Moorhead attendees that he will not back any policy he doesn’t believe is best for farmers despite calls to junk his price support program. He notes rising farm land values as a sign of a bright agriculture future while acknowledging surplus stocks. A Des Moines telegram to Sherman Adams urged presidential action to restore parity at 90 percent.
In Geneva the Western Big Three refuse Israel arms and new security guarantees amid renewed Israeli Egyptian clashes on the Gaza frontier. They plan to renew the 1950 pledge to act against aggression and review strategy for the Big Four talks with Molotov. Israel’s Moshe Sharett expected to reject the renewal.
Francis Leroy Henning of Cleveland, 64, faces a 10 year prison sentence and a 15000 fine for a second counterfeiting conviction. Federal agents say he produced nearly perfect nickels dated 1944 to 1946 marked with a Philadelphia mint symbol and dumped 10000 into the Schuylkill River while passing 5000 in bad coins to banks. He admitted buying materials with a Cleveland job salary of 700 a month and previously served a counterfeit term in 1939.

Mr and Mrs Leo N Conrad of New Hampton Iowa were killed when their southbound car on highway 77 collided with a westbound vehicle driven by Frank Simmons of Geneseo Illinois at the Richland intersection of highways 77 and 78. The Simmons vehicle occupants including two young daughters were treated. Conrad victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Waterlooo sheriff Wagner reports four men staged a jail break Thursday night. Orville Eilers and Joe Bervenik were still at large. Glenn Bartlett and Gary Kern were arrested. Jailer robbery with aggravation and escape charges loom as authorities pursue leads.
Ames Chapter of DeMolay conferred the initiatory degree on nine new members Thursday evening in Burlington. James A. Guest Chapter of Burlington presented the first degree, with support from Washington chapter members including Chapter Master Councilor George Watson and Bob Robertson. A fourth Gray Ladies class has completed orientation and will serve as Red Cross volunteers at the hospital. Instructor Miss Esther Squire led the program, started in 1952 with 13 graduates and now totals 41 volunteers across four classes. The current group includes Mrs. Gene Crossett and seven others.
FAIRBANKS Alaska AP three survivors of a six day ordeal after their plane crash in a frozen Alaska wasteland returned to Barter Island to recount their struggle to stay alive. Pilot Keith Lenhart Harold Brazell and R F Castling described sleeping up to six nights to keep warm and using a milk supply for body heat.
Tin serves as chairman of the program as women give voluntary services to ease patients' stays at the Washington hospital, making visits more comfortable and pleasant.

Dr William Andrew Longnecker 87 retired Methodist minister died in Oskaloosa Thursday evening. He served as pastor district superintendent and field secretary for Iowa Wesleyan College and was a trustee there. He retired in 1942 and lived in Oskaloosa since. Funeral services were held at Central Methodist Church in Oskaloosa.
