A low flying Douglas A3D Skywarrior struck multiple Navy facilities at El Centro causing nine deaths and at least 22 injuries. The crew of three died, including Cmdr. Arthur Perkett and Lt. Cmdr. Paul Duris. Fire and debris damaged post exchange, theater, barber shop, and swimming pool. a church was hit as witnesses described a ball of fire and a two block spread. An investigation and engineering survey were ordered.
