In Tripoli on October 28 Italian troops repelled three nights of furious assaults by Arabs and Turks. About 1,000 Arabs and Turks were killed and 500 wounded, with 6,000 attackers along the front. Italians lost around 100 as the Eighty-Second, Fortieth, and Eighty-Fourth regiments repelled breaches and captured the Arabs banner.
In Ontonagon Michigan on October 28 the taking of testimony in Mrs Laura Stannard murder trial concluded. Prosecutor Jones and defense attorney P H O'Brien opened the arguments with L F Legendre Brown and O'Connor also present. Stannard denied poisoning his wife or having motive as the couple faced the jury.
Kansas City judge orders only trial transcripts and specific newspaper accounts read to determine veniremen opinions. Defense says accounts were accurate. State contends otherwise. Attorneys will assist in the reading as the second trial proceeds.
