State legislators reverse trend toward higher taxes
Iowa and other states turn to tax relief as Tax Foundation reports net reductions in state taxes for the year. In 27 legislatures bills adjusted tax structures, with nine states taxed $500 million more and 14 states $1 billion less than prior laws, for an overall annual cut of about $500 million. The shift follows years of rising receipts and reliance on federal revenue sharing, with reforms also targeting property tax relief for the elderly and broader segments.
