Stephens to File For State Senator

State Representative Richard L. Stephens of Ainsworth announced he will run on the Republican ticket for state senator in the 1962 regu lar election. He seeks the Tenth Senatorial District comprising Washington and Louisa Counties. Stephens has served in the 57th 58th and 59th General Assemblies and held key committee posts including Education Appropriations Ways and Means and Reapportionment. He is a farmer and longtime Farm Bureau leader, with numerous community roles and extensive public service. He is married with two sons and is active in the Methodist Church and Masons.

Missing Housewife Sought by Police in Lincoln Mass

Kiwanis Club Speaker outlines Unsuspected Needs in Bills

State Representative Richard Stephens spoke to the Washington Kiwanis Club on Unsuspected Needs in legislation. He classified them into three categories and gave examples. General School Aid to Be Paid in Full for First Time

DES MOINES Iowa officials announced that general school aid claims will be paid in full this year for the first time. The Department of Public Instruction said general aid funds will allow a 109 percent pro rata payment while supplemental aid will cover only 43 percent due to limited funds.

Parsons Student Struck By Whirling Propeller

A Parsons college student from Cedar Rapids was killed at Fairfield airport when his head touched the propeller of the small plane after landing. The pilot James Hise from Des Moines helped park the aircraft and was treated for shock.

The annual city Halloween celebration will take place at the Washington YMCA next Tuesday October 31. In Indianapolis UPI a 56 year old veteran Karo Gamble was released from a 90 day vagrancy sentence to reunite with his small dog Waterloo at the city dog pound The municipal court suspended the sentence and fine after police and officials arranged a municipal job for Gamble at the garage The dog and man shared a staged reunion captured by a photographer and cheered by observers nationwide with waterloo’s affection turning Gamble momentarily toward hope after hardship.

Patterson in Good Condition After Fatal Washington Crash

John Kenneth Patterson Jr. of near Washington remained hospitalized and improving after a Wednesday morning crash seven miles north and three miles west of Washington at Straw College Corner.
