Engineer Healy's eleven year old son Charles lost both legs while attempting to board a moving freight train caboose. He died at 10 o'clock last night after intense suffering. The incident occurred as Healy, bound east, changed with the No. 98 engineer toward Eldon. The family and railway workers mourn the loss.
Frank Bangs shines as Colonel Preston in the long running play Alabama now in its fifth year of success. He portrayed the same role for five years, having served as a colonel in the Virginia army under General Robert E Lee during the war, making him closely identified with the character.
Mrs. Chas. Cunningham hosted about sixty guests for a 6 o'clock tea and elegant repast. Guests enjoyed a pleasant evening with Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham, who proved themselves royal entertainers. Mrs. Cunningham hosts again next week.
The Famous Smith Sisters perform tomorrow evening under the ladies of the Methodist Church. A popular program is promised and a good house is urged. Concert begins at 8 PM allowing all to attend Saturday eve.
Mr and Mrs Samuel Swick entertained seventy five invited couples at the Phoenix last evening. The gathering enjoyed reels and wheels late into the night and all attendees pronounced it a pleasant affair.
Correspondence notes the C., R. I. & P. company shifting its depot and improving the surrounding property in first class style.
Fourteen loads of stock arrived Tuesday and eleven loads from Washington on Wednesday, indicating strong activity for the Narrow Gauge. A note notes youth misbehavior with cars called flipping, warning parents and stating authorities will arrest offenders. Anna Brown of Brighton earned a WCTU Loyal Temperance Legion reward for recruiting the most members.

One is 24 miles from the railroad, the other 44 miles. A 200 acre tract 14 miles from a railroad with a two story house and barns at 60 per acre. Another improved farm two miles from Washington at 60 per acre. Dixon offers 67 farms on the list and invites buyers to inspect bargains.
In a scene at the sheriff's office inside the courthouse yesterday around 4 o'clock Deputy Black brought Joe W. Schantz before the commissioners of insanity. He reportedly threatened friends and may be sent to the asylum, believed to be due to drink.
The 1895 census for Washington County records 94 890 white males and 9 202 colored males, 34 white females and 9 colored females, totaling 18 751 residents. It notes a five year population increase of 244 citizens.
